Guidelines for Grant Applications

All grants must directly benefit residents of Thurston County, Washington, only. Grants from the Lassen Foundation are generally restricted to nonprofit, tax exempt organizations with certified 501(c)3 status.

Grants are generally not made
• to individuals
• for endowments
• for public school projects
• for government programs or agencies
• in response to telephone solicitations
• for conference expenses
• for courtesy advertising
• to religious organizations for religious purposes

The merits of any proposal are judged on the priorities, guidelines, and relevance of the program. There are, however, several general attributes sought in the requests:
• Evidence that the project will address an important need.
• Approaches that are innovative, cost-effective and provide a reasonable benefit to the greatest possible number of people in Thurston County.
• Impact consistent with the level of the proposed expenditure.
• Indication that other financial support will be likely for the future of the project.
• Demonstrated competence among those individuals guiding and staffing the project.
